This year we have two members of staff who will be participating in Cancer Research UK's Race for Life.

The race will be taking place on Sunday, July 18 on Southsea Common. There are two distances with two starting times: the 10k race starts at 9am and the 5k race starts at 11.30am. While it is called a race, it is not competitive and participants may run, jog or walk the distance.

The Race for Life is a women-only event which has been taking place all over the country since 1994. Money raised through sponsorship goes to Cancer Research UK to help them continue the work of over 4,500 researchers, doctors and nurses dedicated to helping people beat cancer.

Many people taking part have survived a cancer experience, others take part in memory of a loved one. So far 4.7million women have raised over £370million to fund Cancer Research UK's life-saving work.

Tina Aris from the ticket office will be running the race in memory of her mum Sally. Sally sadly died of cancer two years ago. Tina is running the 5k race and hopes to do it in 45 minutes or under. While this is Tina's third year of running the race, community coach Kirtsy McGee will be running the race for the first time. Kirsty is running the 10k race in support of her Pompey Ladies team-mate Amy Swallow.

Please come down and support Tina, Kirsty and all the ladies who will be taking part this year. If you want to sponsor Tina or Kirsty please contact Portsmouth Football Club on 023 9273 1204 or to make a donation to Cancer Research, visit their website at
