The Spinnaker Tower will be going blue this September.
The tower – an iconic part of the Portsmouth waterfront – has teamed up with Pompey Sports & Education Foundation in the fight against cancer and will be bathed in blue light on three Mondays this month as part of Blue September.
Blue September is specifically aimed at raising awareness of all the cancers that can affect men – including lung, prostate, bowel, and melanoma – and the lifestyle choices men can make to reduce their risk.
It also encourages men to seek medical advice as soon as possible if they have a worrying symptom.
Jenny Nolan, marketing manager at the Spinnaker Tower, said: “The Spinnaker Tower is pleased to be able to support Blue September in its bid to raise awareness of male cancers.
“The charity carries out much-needed work and by lighting the tower on three Mondays this September; we will hopefully contribute to improving knowledge about cancer in Portsmouth and beyond.”
Clare Martin, Pompey’s director of community projects, added: “I really hope that Blue September will encourage the male population of the city to visit their GP.
“This is an important cause, which is why the club is proud to be supporting this initiative.”
