Pompey Sports & Education Foundation’s new age kurling group in Milton have been receiving some valuable healthy eating tips recently.
The health trainer service at Learning Links Portsmouth donated portion size plates, which act as a tool to remind people to limit their portion sizes and to eat healthy, balanced meals.
They also gave us five tips to ensure you eat well.
1. Make an effort to eat at the table. Eating in front of the TV is a sure way to overeat.
2. Eat slowly to give your body time to digest and send signals to the brain that you are full.
3. Don’t skip meals. When you miss meals, your body thinks you are in starvation mode so it slows down your metabolism to compensate. This could cause you to overeat at the next meal.
4. Include high-fibre foods in your diet (beans, fruit and oat products). Fibre helps you feel full faster and for longer. It also helps to keep your blood sugar stable.
5. Eat lots of leafy vegetables. They fill you up and are packed with nutrients.
The kurling sessions tale place on Mondays at the Buckland Community Centre, between 10am and 11am and Milton Village Hall from 2pm to 3pm.
