The sides drew 1-1 when they met at Fratton Park earlier this season with Kanu rescuing Pompey a point after Andrew Taylor had fired Cardiff in front.
But the Bluebirds did the double over Pompey last season, winning 2-0 on the south coast before a 3-0 triumph – with Ricardo Rocha sent off for the Blues – in Wales.
Prior to those meetings the sides had not faced each other in the league since the 1984/85 season, when Pompey took four points off Cardiff.
There have been plenty of cup clashes, however. Pompey triumphed in the League Cup in 1990 and 2004, while Cardiff were victorious in 1995. Then, of course, there was the 2008 FA Cup final at Wembley, when Kanu scored the Blues’ winner.
Cardiff currently sit third in the Championship table with 46 points from 26 games. They are four points behind joint leaders Southampton and West Ham.
Pompey are 15 points behind Saturday’s opponents in 17th position. They are seven points clear of the bottom three and 11 points adrift of the play-off places.
