Former Blues boss Steve Cotterill endured a miserable return to Fratton Park when he brought his Forest side to the south coast back in November.

Erik Huseklepp bagged a brace and Dave Kitson also found the target as Pompey eased to a 3-0 triumph.

Both sides claimed victory on their own patch last season, with Ibrahima Sonko and Liam Lawrence netting in a 2-1 Blues victory at Fratton Park.

Kanu’s goal looked to have won the return fixture for Pompey at the City Ground, but Sonko put the ball in his own net late on, before Marcus Tudgay’s goal condemned the Blues to defeat.

Pompey’s last victory at the City Ground was in a Carling Cup tie in 2003/04 season, although the Blues needed extra-time to beat Forest 4-2.

Their last league victory was in December 2002, with Matt Taylor and Vincent Pericard scoring in a 2-1 victory in Pompey’s promotion season.

Nottingham Forest currently sit 20th in the Championship table with 47 points from 45 games. They could finish the season as high as 18th or as low as 21st.

Cotterill’s side have won five, drawn five and lost 12 at home in the league this season; beating Middlesbrough (2-0), Reading (1-0), Ipswich (3-2), Coventry (2-0) and Millwall (3-1); drawing with Barnsley (0-0), Leicester (2-2), Watford (1-1), Brighton (1-1) and Blackpool (0-0) and losing to West Ham (1-4), Derby (1-2), Birmingham (1-3), Hull (0-1), Leeds (4-0), Crystal Palace (0-1), Peterborough (0-1), Cardiff (0-1), Southampton (0-3), Burnley (0-2), Doncaster (1-2) and Bristol City (0-1).
