Peterborough triumphed 3-2 when the sides met at Fratton Park back in September. The Blues twice fought back to level with Lee Frecklington strikes cancelled out by a Gabriel Zakuani own-goal and Benjani effort. But, with Pompey pushing for a winner, Posh broke quickly at the death and Erik Huseklepp put the ball into his own net.
Before that clash the sides had not met in the league since the 1993/94 campaign when the sides drew 2-2 at London Road, before a 2-0 Peterborough victory on the south coast.
There have, however, been three League Cup games since. Goals from Hamilton Thorp and David Hiller helped Pompey to a 2-2 draw at London Road in 1997, but Peterborough won the return leg 2-1 to progress on aggregate.
The Blues achieved a better result when they met at Fratton Park in the same competition five years later, with Nigel Quashie and Linvoy Primus goals sealing a 2-0 triumph.
This is only the seventh season that Pompey and Peterborough have shared the same division – and the third time they have both been in the second tier.
Pompey’s biggest victory against the Posh came in 1980 (Division Four) and 1993 (Division One) when they won 4-0 at Fratton Park.
Peterborough’s greatest triumph over the Blues was their 3-0 Division Three victory – also at Fratton – in 1962.
