Joel Ward cursed the lack of concentration that denied the Blues any points at Cardiff last week.
But he promised that Pompey will learn from their mistakes ahead of Saturday’s trip to Peterborough.
Michael Appleton’s side were leading 2-1 at the Cardiff City Stadium before being undone by two sloppy goals – the second of which was conceded deep into stoppage-time.
It means the Blues have still only one away victory to their name all season.
And Ward, who started at left-back against Cardiff, is desperate to add to that meagre tally as Pompey travel to London Road in the league for the first time since 1994.
He said: “We’re just concentrating on doing our job. People keep bringing the away record up, but we don’t need to hear it – we know we have to improve.
“Our home form’s been quite good. That’s great, but we have to do it on our travels as well. Hopefully we can do that and pick up as many points as we can – starting with Peterborough.
“We were gutted with the result last week, but we only had ourselves to blame. We went to sleep and conceded late on.
“We’ve learnt from that and have to prove to the fans that we’ve learnt from it by doing well in our next few games.”
Peterborough came out on top when the sides met at Fratton Park back in September.
The Blues dominated the game, but twice had to claw themselves level before Erik Huseklepp’s last-gasp own-goal condemned them to defeat.
“We were the better side,” said Ward, who has missed just two games this season. “But they scored the winner in the last minute. We need a similar performance with a different outcome this time around.
“We’ll look to get at them straight away and we’ve got more than enough talent to cause them problems and come away with all three points.
“It’s important that we find some consistency and pick up points against the sides around us in the table."
