Pompey Academy were undone by a couple of first-half goals in quick succession as they were beaten 3-0 at Charlton.
Oliver Muldoon opened the scoring on 36 minutes and the hosts doubled their advantage moments later when Harry Lennon headed home at the back post.
Substitute Tobi Sho-Silva then added a third at the death to put a gloss on the Addicks’ victory.
Academy manager Andy Awford said: “We didn’t turn up in the first half – a few of our players were off the pace.
“So we made a couple of changes at the break and improved in the second half.
“There was a 25 minute spell when we created four or five good chances to get back into the game, but we didn’t take them.
“Then Charlton add a third goal in the closing stages which I thought made the scoreline a little unfair.
“But we made some individual errors that cost us and didn’t take our opportunities when they came along, so we’ve got to learn from that.
“It’s a disappointing result for us but we’ll keep working hard in training and hopefully get a better result when we host West Ham next week.”
