Pompey recovered from two successive defeats with a 2-2 draw at Bristol City.
Shelton Gooden fired the hosts ahead after just six minutes, but Ashley Harris levelled almost immediately.
The Blues looked to have secured victory when Harris won a penalty that was converted by Sam Magri (pictured) after the interval.
But Robins defender Chris Abbott equalised 12 minutes from time to ensure a share of the spoils.
Academy manager Andy Awford said: “We had a disappointing start and fell behind because of a defensive mix-up, after we gifted their centre-forward the ball in our box.
“But we responded really well to that and got back into the game thanks to a good header at the far post from Ashley Harris.
“We had plenty of chances in the first half and could have gone in two or three goals ahead at the break. I said to the boys during the interval that they had a great chance of going on to win the game.
“But Bristol City changed the way they played in the second half. They went a lot more defensive which made it difficult for us to open them up.
“We still had the majority of possession, however, and deservedly took the lead when Ashley won a penalty that Sam Magri converted.
“But we didn’t kill them off. We had four or five more good chances that we didn’t take and that allowed them to equalise from a corner.
“I was really pleased with the way we played and the lads are showing that they’re listening to what we’re teaching them during the week.
“We just need to make sure we take our chances when we’re on top in games, but the boys are still learning and that’s part of their education.”
