Pompey Academy 3 Nike Academy 3
Pompey Academy continued their impressive pre-season form with a 3-3 draw against Nike Academy.
The Blues fell behind when George Colson inadvertently diverted the ball into his own net, but were level after Jack Maloney had been fouled in the box and Sam Magri stepped up to convert the penalty.
Andy Awford’s side conceded again and once more came back to equalise with Maloney cutting the ball back for Lewis Stockford (pictured) to score.
It looked like Pompey were heading for defeat when they let in a third goal with just five minutes remaining.
But Colson made up for his earlier own-goal with a fine strike from 25 yards to salvage a draw.
Awford said: “Nike Academy are a side based at Loughborough University who are made up of 19 and 20-year-olds that have been released by clubs.
“We had 16-year-olds in our side, so it was a good test for us against a physically stronger side.
“We played some good stuff and they got a pat on the back after the game – although I always tell them that a pat on the back isn’t too far away from a kick up the backside as we like to keep them grounded.”
