Pompey Academy lost 6-1 at Wolves in their final pre-season friendly.
George Colson had levelled the scores in the first half, but the Blues went in 2-1 down at the interval.
Three goals in the last 10 minutes gave the scoreline an added gloss for the hosts.
Academy manager Andy Awford said: “We didn’t deserve to get a result, although we weren’t as bad as the scoreline suggests.
“The players have had a long, hard pre-season and perhaps this was one game too far. But the positive is that it happened now, while we still have time to get things right.
“There are a lot of things to work on in training and we’ll make sure to bring the boys’ confidence back up.
“The important thing is to be geared up and ready for our opening league game at Manchester United next week.”
