Pompey Academy were beaten 3-0 by their Chelsea counterparts on a windy day in Cobham.
The Londoners took the lead on 19 minutes when Walter Figueira tapped home Adam Nditi’s cross from the left.
And Bobby Devyne doubled their advantage soon after with a free-kick from the edge of the box after Danny Stenning had been fouled.
Pompey were much stronger after the interval and started to create some chances but they were dealt a blow on 65 minutes when Dan Butler (pictured) received his second yellow card and was sent off.
And Chelsea then killed the game off when Stenning curled the ball into the top corner of Tom Fry’s net from 25 yards.
Academy manager Andy Awford said: “For 25 minutes we were second best. We struggled against their diamond midfield and they scored two early goals.
“But we changed things tactically and then started to look a lot brighter. The lads adjusted to the changes really well.
“We did okay in the second half. The players took what I said at the break on board and we had a few opportunities to score.
“If we’d got it back to 2-1 then it would have been game on. But Dan gets sent off – and I think his second booking was a bit harsh – and then they score a third when their player mis-hits the ball.
“Overall Chelsea were the better side and deserved the three points but hopefully we can soon start winning some games.”
