Pompey’s academy forward Ashley Harris has won September’s Youth Alliance and Academy Goal of the Month award.
His spectacular strike against MK Dons on September 17 received more than 50 per cent of the public vote.
“I am really pleased to win this award in the face of some tough competition,” Harris told League Football Education (LFE). “There were some outstanding goals and I’m just thankful to those who supported me.
“I’d also like to thank my team-mates because football is a team game and without them I wouldn’t have the opportunity to win individual awards."
Academy manager Andy Awford said: “Ashley showed fantastic ability and agility. He fully deserved to win the award.”
Harris received 1,441 votes in the online poll with his nearest challenger – York’s Tom Platt – receiving 467 votes.
He now joins Bristol City’s Elan Gordon in qualifying for 2011/12 goal of the season competition.
