Walkes: Let's Make It Five

Defender wants to end August on a high

24 August 2018

Anton Walkes is hoping that Pompey can finish the month with yet another victory.

The Blues have got the League One campaign off to an impressive start by collecting four successive wins.

It leaves them and Peterborough – who sit top on goal difference – as the only EFL sides to still hold a perfect record.

Now Walkes is looking for a fifth triumph when Pompey head north to take on Doncaster at the Keepmoat Stadium on Saturday.

The right-back – whose only goal for the club came against Rovers last season – said: “We’ve made a good start to the season in the league and it would be great to end the month with a 100 per cent record.

“If we can just keep taking it game by game and continue to pick up points, then we’re going to build momentum.

“I’ve heard the stats about it being a while since we’ve won the opening five matches, so that will add a bit of pressure.

“The supporters are excited and it’s always good when they come out to support you in large numbers on the road.”

It is not just helping Pompey that is currently on Walkes’ mind, as he recently became father to a baby girl.

The 21-year-old said: “Fortunately, everything went well and it was very easy for me to come straight back to work.

“It’s a great blessing and I’ve enjoyed every single minute so far – she keeps putting a smile on my face.

“I’m a very happy dad, although there have been a few sleepless nights. The lads have tried to offer some advice, but some of them can’t even look after themselves!”
