New Deal And Loan Move For Bass

Keeper will spend the season at Torquay

9 July 2018

Alex Bass has put pen to paper on a new three-year Pompey contract.

But the goalkeeper will spend the 2018/19 campaign with Torquay, having joined the National League South outfit on a season-long loan.

The 20-year-old said: “I’m delighted to get the new deal done. We’ve been talking about it for a while, so it’s nice to get it over the line.

“The gaffer wanted me to go out and play football this season, then come back and push for a spot here.

“Hopefully I can play regularly at Torquay and gain some more experience, which is what I’m looking for at this stage of my career.”

Bass has made three senior appearances for Pompey, keeping a clean sheet on his league debut against Peterborough on the final day of last season.

The Blues academy graduate previously featured in an EFL Cup tie at Coventry and a Checkatrade Trophy clash with Fulham.

Torquay are managed by former Pompey head of community Gary Owers, who has ex-Blues midfielder Martin Kuhl as his assistant.
