Naylor: Keep The Wins Coming

Midfielder revels in latest victory on the road

24 November 2018

Tom Naylor is enjoying being part of a winning team at Pompey.

The midfielder opened the scoring in their 2-1 victory at Scunthorpe – a result that sent them four points clear at the top of the League One table.

Gareth Evans doubled the advantage with a fine finish, although Lee Novak pulled one back to ensure a tense conclusion to the Glanford Park contest.

Naylor concedes that the Blues should have been out of sight, but was pleased to claim another win on the road.

He said: “There were a lot of chances for us to wrap things up and we probably should have scored a few more goals.

“But Scunthorpe were always going to get at us a bit more in the second half and they managed to get one back.

"It’s very enjoyable when you’re winning games, but there are a lot of them to come and we need to keep fighting."

“From that point I thought we defended really well to make sure we took all three points and stay unbeaten on the road.

“It was just instinct really for my goal. Jack Whatmough had a shot, I swivelled and hit it hard and low – luckily it’s gone in the net.

“A great finish from Gaz put us further ahead. I was right behind him and thought it was going over at the time.

“It’s very enjoyable when you’re winning games, but there are a lot of them to come and we need to keep fighting.

“We’re over the moon with how we’re playing at the minute and want to cap things off with another win at Fratton Park on Tuesday.

“I believe we’re one of the biggest clubs in this league and should be up there. You can see the quality we’ve got.”
