International Round-Up: March 2024

Yengi and Lane in action for their countries

We take a look at how Pompey players fared during the recent round of international fixtures.

Kusini Yengi
The striker netted his first senior international goal to help Australia continue their perfect start to the World Cup Asian qualification campaign.

He started both of the Socceroos matches against Lebanon – which were held in Parramatta and Canberra respectively.

Graham Arnold's side won the first 2-0 and the second 5-0, meaning they have qualified for the next stage of qualifying with two group games still to play.

And Yengi got Australia off to the perfect start in the latter contest by converting a low Craig Goodwin delivery.

Speaking to Socceroos.com.au afterwards, he said: "It's an amazing feeling. Over my journey to get here, it's something that I've dreamed about and it's finally come true, so I’m very happy.

"We got the win to help us qualify for the next round, so I’m happy with my contribution and with the effort from the team."

Paddy Lane
The forward was awarded his fourth senior cap for Northern Ireland in their friendly with Romania in Bucharest.

Lane started as a youthful side drew 1-1 with their Euro 2024-bound hosts, playing just over an hour.

But he was on the bench in Glasgow a few days later, with Northern Ireland enjoying a 1-0 win over Scotland.

Haji Mnoga
The defender – who is currently on loan at Aldershot – represented Tanzania in the 2024 FIFA Series tournament in Azerbaijan.

He started both games, as the Taifa Stars were beaten 1-0 by Bulgaria before securing a 3-0 victory over Mongolia.
