MATCH PREVIEW: EXETER v POMPEY

26 August 2016

All you need to know about League Two clash

Pompey will look to make it back-to-back victories when they travel to Devon to take on Exeter this weekend.

Their opponents similarly recorded a first league win of the season by seeing off Accrington last Saturday.

But Paul Tisdale’s side were also in EFL Cup action during the week, taking the lead against top-flight Hull at St James Park before eventually losing 3-1.

Only Cambridge are keeping the Greicans off the foot of the League Two table following a slow start to the 2016/17 campaign.

They lost their opening three fixtures before finally getting off the mark against Stanley, courtesy of goals from Ryan Harley and Jake Taylor.

Exeter enjoyed plenty of success against Pompey last season, remaining undefeated in three meetings between the sides.

They beat a youthful Blues side in the Football League Trophy and then won at Fratton Park in the league a few weeks later.

It looked like Paul Cook’s side were heading for three points at St James Park, only for Ollie Watkins to grab a late leveller.

TEAM NEWS
Matt Clarke (groin), Brandon Haunstrup (collarbone) and Jack Whatmough (knee) are still out, but Ben Close is back in full training.

Former Pompey loanee Lee Holmes is set to miss out for Exeter with a foot injury, while Troy Archibald-Henville (groin) is a doubt.
