EVANS: ANOTHER PARTY ON SATURDAY

20 April 2017

Right-back looking forward to Cambridge clash

There were almost 4,500 Pompey fans at Meadow Lane to enjoy a promotion party.

They spilled onto the pitch after watching their side beat Notts County 3-1 to secure a spot in League One next term.

But with the success taking place away from Fratton Park, there were thousands who missed out on the chance to celebrate with their heroes.

So Gareth Evans is excited that this weekend’s home clash with Cambridge gives more supporters a chance to join in with the festivities.

He said: “It was a magical feeling and to have so many fans there made it feel more like a home game.

“It was a brilliant day for the fans and the players, and something I’ve been looking forward to since I arrived at this club two years ago.

“But we’ll look forward to getting back to Fratton Park and enjoying it with the supporters there on Saturday.

“A lot of hard work has gone into achieving this from a lot of people. We wanted to do it with a few games to go and now we can enjoy our summers and look forward to playing in League One. “

There was an extra reason for Evans to enjoy Monday’s victory, as he scored the opening goal from the penalty spot.

He said: “I’m not really thinking about that too much now, but it’s something that I can enjoy looking back on.”
