EVANS: MOVE ON QUICKLY

Recovery needed after Fratton defeat

There was plenty of confidence floating around Fratton Park ahead of Pompey’s clash with Notts County.

A couple of positive results on the road meant there was a sense of expectancy that three more points would follow.

Instead it was the Magpies celebrating a 2-1 victory, despite being under the cosh for much of the afternoon.

But Gareth Evans knows that Pompey have to get that result out of their system as soon as possible.

He said: “I don’t think we got the rub of the green with some decisions – I think the whole ground could see that Tom Davies got pushed for the second goal.

“But I don’t want to come out and make excuses because we should have put the ball in the back of the net.

“We were really encouraged with the away performances at Orient and Plymouth, and came into the game full of confidence.

“So to not take away any points is a disappointment and we need to try to move on quickly ahead of the next game.

“It was pretty flat afterwards and it’s hard to stay positive, but you have to bury it before you return to training.

“We can’t afford to lose much more ground and we can’t keep saying that we’re going to go on another run.

“You have to stop talking about and actually do it, hopefully starting with a tough trip to Cambridge next Saturday.

“If we play anything like we did in our last couple of away games then I’m sure we’ll get the result we want.”
