HUNTING FOR SUCCESS

17 March 2017

Striker looking for more joy at Stevenage

Pompey have worked hard to barge themselves into the top three.

And Noel Hunt is adamant that they will do everything possible to still be there at the end of the season.

A run of three successive victories has seen the Blues open up a six-point gap between themselves and Carlisle, who lead the chasing pack.

But Hunt hopes they can extend that advantage with a trip to fellow promotion hopefuls Stevenage this weekend.

The striker said: “Everyone was on the floor three games ago, but we tried to stay as positive as we could knowing things can change.

“It’s ours to throw away now and the players have been immense recently, so hopefully we can continue that.

“We’ve been so well drilled that it really is down to those boys on the field to carry on a good run of form.

“I’ve been telling the lads that we can’t be looking over our shoulders – we should be focusing on trying to catch Plymouth.

“It all starts again on Saturday and all we can do is our job, which is getting three points against Stevenage.

“In a few weeks you’ll be able to see the finish line and it’s just about keeping the right mentality and concentrating on the next game.”

Hunt has mostly been used from the bench this season, but that has not diluted his hunger for success.

He said: “We’ve got a big squad and it must be hard for the manager to keep everyone happy, but we’re all in it together.

“There’s a great ethos in the group and everyone understands their role – there’s nobody here who’s bigger than the club.”
