POMPEY LADIES PLAYERS AT FRATTON TODAY

4 March 2017

Visit to mark International Women's Day

Portsmouth FC are delighted to welcome Pompey Ladies to Fratton Park for today’s game against Crewe to mark International Women’s Day, which takes place on March 8.

Players from the under-9s through to the senior side will be watching the match from the Milton End as guests of the club and Pompey in the Community.

Representatives of the sides will be presented to the crowd at half-time and do a lap of appreciation.

Pompey Ladies’ chairman Mick Williams and his wife Ann will also be guests of the club in the boardroom.

Colin Farmery, Portsmouth FC’s head of inclusion, said: “We are delighted to welcome Pompey Ladies to Fratton Park today.

“Our partnership with the club continues to strengthen and deepen, and it is important we celebrate that.”

Mick Williams added: “Pompey Ladies are extremely proud to be part of our wonderful Pompey family.

“We are grateful to Portsmouth FC for inviting us to be part of the International Women’s Day celebrations at Fratton Park. “

Pompey Ladies teams have been around since the early part of last century, but in recent years the popularity of women’s football has grown immensely.

Current chairman Mick Williams, who was until 2015 a director of Portsmouth FC, was the manager of a Pompey Ladies team in the late 60s.

Pompey Ladies have a great recent record, having won the FA Women’s Premier League Southern Division in 2015, narrowly missing promotion to the Super League due to a stoppage-time goal by Sheffield.

The club also has a fantastic record of success in the Hampshire Women’s FA cup. They are current holders and will contest yet another final against arch rivals Southampton Women’s FC on Wednesday, March 15 at Havant & Waterlooville’s Westleigh Park.

Kick-off is at 7.45pm and the ladies would love to see massive support there to cheer them on to another Hampshire Cup success.
