LADIES END SEASON WITH COVENTRY DEFEAT

14 May 2017

Iusan nets first goal for Blues

Pompey Ladies finished the season with a 3-1 defeat to Premier League Southern Division runners-up Coventry at Petersfield’s Love Lane.

They fell behind after just four minutes when Natasha Lynch rose highest at the back post to convert Laura Cooper’s corner.

Jade Brook then did well to control a bouncing ball and side-foot the visitors into a stronger advantage midway through the first half.

Alex Iusan reduced the deficit with her first goal for the club – a stunning finish that flew into the top corner.

But Coventry wrapped things up just before the break, when Callan Barber bent a fine free-kick into the net from wide on the left.

Blues boss Jay Sadler said: “It was probably one of our best performances of the season. We got hold of the ball, took the game to Coventry and deserved more.

“Considering that they have finished second in our league, in my opinion we dominated the contest.

“There were a few lapses in concentration and the odd mistake or two – and our opponents capitalised on that.

“But in terms of the whole team performance, I think every single one of our players deserve a pat on the back.”
