CHAPLIN PENS NEW DEAL

Striker extends Pompey contract

Conor Chaplin has signed a new Pompey contract.

The 19-year-old striker penned a one-year extension to his current deal, which now runs until the summer of 2019.

“I’m delighted to have agreed a new contract to stay at Pompey for another year,” he said.

“I can remember scoring in the FA Youth Cup at Plymouth and that was just before I started to play for the first team under Andy Awford.

“It hasn’t even been two years since then, which is crazy. It feels like a lot longer because of everything that’s happened since.

“I’ve started the last five games and that’s amazing for me. Hopefully that can continue and I can score more goals to help this club climb back up the leagues.”

Chaplin made his senior debut in a League Two clash with Accrington back in December 2014 and has gone on to score 15 goals in 60 appearances.

The academy graduate has netted three times in 13 games so far this term, including stunning strikes against Wycombe and Blackpool.
