Gill and Sayers on target for Blues

Pompey Academy made it back-to-back victories with a 2-0 triumph at Leyton Orient.

They broke the deadlock on the hour mark when Lewis Gill (pictured) ran at the hosts’ defence before calmly slotting the ball home.

And Liam Sayers then came off the bench to score the second following some fantastic build-up play from Kim Jae Heon and Brandon Haunstrup.

Academy coach Paul Hardyman said: “They worked hard and played really well – it was a fantastic performance from the entire team.

“We continued to field several of our under-16 side, with Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain making his full debut and Liam scoring.

“It was probably the best we’ve played all season and we were quick to close Orient down, making it difficult for them to do anything with the ball.

“Lewis scored a great goal and then the second one was a fantastic team effort as we switched the ball from right to left before Liam ended the move.”

Pompey: Greene; Davis, Field, Medway, Haunstrup; Rwakarambwe (Sayers 76), Close (c), Oxlade-Chamberlain (May 65), Kim; Chaplin, Gill (Horsburgh 68)
