THE PERFECT RESPONSE

22 November 2014

Macca delighted with Morecambe display

It had been a difficult week for everyone involved with Pompey.

Uncomfortable defeats at Plymouth and non-league Aldershot meant the pressure was on ahead of a home clash with Morecambe.

But the Blues have been beaten just once at Fratton Park in the league and showed why with a confident display.

Jed Wallace’s brace and a Craig Westcarr effort saw Pompey ease to a 3-0 triumph in a game where the hosts created plenty of openings.

And Alan McLoughlin was delighted with the way they responded to the last two performances.

The Blues first team coach said: “It was pleasing to win so convincingly at home, where we’ve been particularly strong this season.

“It’s been a really tough week. We’d hoped for a reaction and we certainly got that. To a man, all of the players deserve credit.

“We got the early goal through Craig and could have gone on to get six or seven.

“There were two great finishes for Jed thanks to some good work from Miles Storey.

“He could have got a few more, but it’s great that he’s got 10 already. He also has to show a defensive side to his game, though, and he did that manfully.

“The keeper made some brilliant saves from Ryan Taylor, whose contribution and the way he allowed us to get up the pitch was fantastic.

“The debutants Marcus Bean and Matt Fish were excellent. They were nice and steady, keeping their shape and composure throughout.

“Morecambe had a spell in the second half when they had a few opportunities, but overall I thought we looked comfortable.”

Victory lifted Pompey up to 10th in the League Two table, but McLoughlin does not want it to be a one-off.

He said: “It’s very pleasing, but it’s gone now. We have to put it to one side and concentrate on Tranmere next week.

“We need to keep our feet on the ground, stay focused and look to build on that result.

“We’re glad that our home form has been so consistent, but we know that we have to improve on the road.”
