CLASH OF THE TITANS

2 March 2015

Boss looking forward to Northampton test

Tuesday night sees League Two’s form sides go head-to-head.

The Blues have claimed an impressive 14 points from their last six matches – one more than Northampton.

Both teams have climbed the table in recent weeks, with Pompey currently two places and three points behind their next opponents in 12th spot.

And Andy Awford is looking forward to watching the two clash at Sixfields Stadium.

The Blues boss said: “Chris Wilder won manager of the month for January and although we’re top of the current form table, they’re second.

“He’s got them playing very well over the last few weeks and it’s going to be a very difficult game.

“Chris did a great job keeping Northampton up last season and then they recovered from a shaky start earlier in this campaign.

“They’ve strung a great run of results together and are a decent outfit who are moving in the right direction.

“I expect it to be very tight, but most games in our league are. I’ve said time and time again that anyone can beat anyone.

“But with two teams playing well and full of confidence it should hopefully be a good match for the supporters.

“We beat them earlier in the season on a nice evening under the lights at Fratton. We dominated that night and I’d certainly settle for the same again.

“We’ve kept five clean sheets in our last seven games and that’s given us a platform to get plenty of points, so hopefully that can continue.”

Jack Whatmough missed Saturday’s goalless draw against Oxford with a knock, but there was a pleasant surprise with Wes Fogden named among the substitutes.

Awford said: “We’ll check on Jack in the morning – he’ll have a fitness test before we get on the bus and we'll take it from there.

“It’s great to see Wes back in training and available for selection. He’s had a couple of reserve matches and it’s like having a new signing.”
