BLUES MOURN HARRY GARCIA

SOS Pompey organiser passes away

Portsmouth Football Club were saddened to learn of the death of lifelong fan Harry Garcia, who passed away on Saturday evening, aged 89.

The local businessman became the chairman of ‘SOS Pompey’ in 1976 after the club had gone into financial meltdown.

With the Blues struggling at the foot of the Division Two table, John Deacon challenged the public to raise £35,000.

SOS Pompey ensured this was raised in just five months, with £20,000 used to pay off the club’s immediate debts.

Harry remained a committed fan and, up until very recently, attended functions like the Hall of Fame dinners.

Everyone at Pompey would like to send their sincere condolences to Harry’s family and friends.
