Keeper hopes Blues will learn from their mistakes
Pompey have an unbeaten record to preserve when they travel to Luton on Saturday.
But Brian Murphy knows they will need to start better than their most recent league clash if they want to achieve another positive result.
The Blues slipped to a 3-0 deficit against Morecambe last weekend before mounting a stunning recovery to secure a point.
So Murphy wants to see them firing on all cylinders from first whistle until last at Kenilworth Road.
The Irish goalkeeper said: “We had so much possession of the ball last week that I think we got caught in a bit of a trap and didn’t treat the game with enough respect.
“I thought that our overall play was good, but we feel asleep at the back and conceded sloppy goals – if we do that against Luton then we’ll be punished.
“So we have to be ready from the first minute and defend as a unit when they have their attacks.
“We need to go out and give another performance like the one we produced for the final 50 minutes against Morecambe.”
Luton have taken just two points from their opening four League Two games, but Murphy believes it is far too soon to write them off.
He said: “It’s early days in the season and people have already decided who are the favourites for the title and promotion.
“We’re only four games in and nobody really knows what level anyone else is at yet.
“People are finding their feet and I know Luton haven’t started particularly well, but it only takes one result to get a season up and running. Hopefully that won’t come on Saturday!
“We just need to concentrate on doing our own jobs and if we do that then hopefully we’ll come away with all three points.”
