LAVERY: START WAS UNACCEPTABLE

28 November 2015

Scorer frustrated by Adams Park stalemate

It was Caolan Lavery who brought Pompey back into the contest at Wycombe.

The on-loan striker netted just before the break to reduce their deficit to just a single goal.

And it was cancelled out completely early in the second half when Adam Webster equalised with a bullet header.

That secured a point for the Blues, but Lavery was unhappy with their sluggish start at Adams Park.

He said: “It was nice to come from two down to get something in the end, but overall it’s disappointing.

“We all know that our performance as a group in the first half wasn’t acceptable, but we were better after the break.

“It’s difficult to put your finger on why it took so long for us to get going – it’s just one of those things that happens in football.

“We were phenomenal against York on Tuesday night, but just didn’t start well this time around.

“It’s tough to take because the way we played in the second half meant we could have ended up with three points.

“We had most of the ball and most of the chances, while they were limited to bits and pieces.”

Lavery was thankful for the role that fellow forward Marc McNulty played in his third Pompey goal.

He said: “He could have taken it himself, but was unselfish and rolled the ball across for me to score.

“That’s what partnerships are all about and I’ve got a lot of respect for Marc for squaring it for me.

“Hopefully this partnership that we’re starting to build will continue to grow and we can get some positive results.”
