CHAPLIN PRAISES TRAVELLING ARMY

30 April 2016

Scorer delighted with backing at Hartlepool

There was a party atmosphere behind one of the goals at Victoria Road.

Almost 1,000 Pompey fans – many of them in fancy dress – made the long trek north to back their side at Hartlepool.

They were rewarded with a 2-0 victory, courtesy of goals from Kal Naismith and substitute Conor Chaplin.

The latter took his tally to 11 for the season – drawing him level with Marc McNulty at the top of the club’s scoring charts.

And Chaplin was delighted that he was able to help send the travelling army home with smiles on their faces.

He said: “It’s good to score as always – especially when that many fans come such a long way to back us.

“We wanted to make sure that they had plenty to cheer because we’ve got such a great following.

“It just goes to show how amazing our supporters are – I’m not sure too many other clubs in the country can match them.

“I look to make a difference whenever I step onto the pitch and Enda just put the ball on a plate for me.

“It’s my job to then just put it in the back of the net and thankfully that’s what I was able to do.”

Pompey now know that they will have to beat Plymouth over two legs to book their place in the play-off final.

Chaplin said: “We’ve had a couple of good tests against them this season, with each side winning at the other’s ground.

“It would be tough against whatever side we got, but we’ll always back ourselves and hopefully we can get to Wembley.”
