Blues progress to last eight in FA Wonen's Cup
Pompey Ladies saw off Super League side Durham to set up an FA Women’s Cup quarter-final clash with Notts County.
The Blues fell behind to their higher-ranked opponents early in the second half at Privett Park.
Beth Jennings finished coolly from 12 yards after Sadie Blakely could only parry Zoe Crooks’ effort.
But Pompey hit back immediately and levelled when Gemma Simmonds converted Charley Wilson’s cross.
Blakely then made a superb save to push Ruth Hepple’s free-kick onto the crossbar, before quickly recovering to deal with the loose ball.
It was the hosts who grabbed the winner deep into stoppage-time, however, as Charley Wilson showed great control before lashing home an unstoppable shot.
Pompey – the only non-Super League side left in the competition – will now host County on Sunday, April 27 with the winners facing either Liverpool or Everton in the semi-finals.
Joint Blues boss Perry Northeast said: “I’m absolutely delighted with the victory and to seal it right at the end made it even sweeter.
“Going behind was probably the best thing that could have happened as it forced us to really up our performance.
“I’m pleased for all the girls, but it was fitting that Charley scored the winner as she covered every blade of grass.
“The second half display showed that we can compete with sides like Durham who play in higher leagues.”
