DEVERA PRAISES POMPEY'S GRAFT

Defender says hard work behind Blues' fine form

And Devera believes that hard work is the key to Pompey’s current fine form.

Jed Wallace and Craig Westcarr scored in the latest triumph – a 2-0 defeat of Northampton on Tuesday night.

The Blues have taken seven points from a possible nine in League Two, while also progressing in the Capital One Cup.

Joe Devera insists that there is no magic formula to Pompey’s unbeaten start.

The defender said: “We don’t just turn it on when we go out onto the pitch – we work hard in training.

“It’s started very well for us, but we’ve still got an awful lot of work to do.

“When I won promotion from this league with Swindon I thought we worked harder than any other team that season – and the same is happening here.

“Now we need to keep focused and not take our foot off the pedal. We have to keep going.

“We’ve had some very tough games and there’s another big one at Oxford this weekend. ” He said: “We’ve got a lot of experience in the squad and also young, energetic players – so the mixture is good.

Blues boss Andy Awford continued his rotation policy against the Cobblers and Devera believes the strength in depth at Fratton Park makes that possible.

“Hopefully we can get another positive result and keep this decent run going for a while yet.
