FANFUNDING TARGET SMASHED

11 August 2014

Academy campaign passes £250,000 goal

Pompey’s fanfunding campaign for two academy pitches closed on Sunday night with the total raised almost £265,000.

The target of £250,000 had already been reached on Friday evening, but donations continued to roll in over the weekend.

Pompey partnered with Tifosy.com, a specialist fanfunding company, to raise the money by offering supporters rewards in exchange for donations.

The campaign website will remain open until midnight on Friday for any late donations and the final total will be announced before kick-off against Cambridge on Saturday.

Colin Farmery, who managed the project for the club, said: “It has been an extraordinary effort by everyone involved.

“The campaign devised by Tifosy has been textbook and everyone at the club has been blown away by how well it has worked.

“Our fans have risen magnificently to the challenge and, I believe, enjoyed the experience.

“Not only has it shown the power of fanfunding – a lot of people giving a relatively small amount to create something big – but also it has been a fantastic way to engage with our fans.”

And Colin hinted there was one final surprise planned.

He said: “We are working on having a final event to celebrate the success of the campaign, with a special guest coming along.

“There will be some tickets available for fans, as well as giving us at the club the chance to say thank you to some people for the support they gave us in making the project happen.”

The campaign was launched in June by Pompey boss Andy Awford, along with former Italy and Chelsea legend Gianluca Vialli.
