Ferry Thrilled To Be Back

5 April 2014

Mifielder skippers Pompey to victory

It has been a season of frustration for Simon Ferry.

A series of niggling injuries meant he has been in and out of the side for much of the campaign.

But the latest has been more of a concern – a back problem that has seen him sidelined since mid-January.

So the midfielder was thrilled to back in the side against Hartlepool, skippering Pompey to a vital victory.

Ferry said: “Awfs pulled me aside on Monday and said that if I got through the week he wanted me to play on Saturday.

“I was delighted with that. I trained all week and didn’t have any problems.

“I just want to be out there helping the team and trying to keep us up.

“It’s been frustrating for me and the first season where I’ve not played virtually every game.

“So it was good to be out there and get back-to-back wins for the first time this season.

“That’s a terrible record and something we wanted to put right. I’m delighted the boys have shown some character.

“We stood tall and defended really well to see the game out and get the three points.”

Pompey came hurtling out of the blocks, stunning Hartlepool with the only goal of the game – a simple finish from Adam Webster – after just 82 seconds.

Ferry said: “Awfs gave a very emotional speech before kick-off and said what the club meant to everyone, including him.

“The boys were really pumped up – as you could see from the start we made – and I just reiterated what he said in the huddle.”
