Fogden: More Belief Needed

11 March 2014

Midfielder says player needs to have faith

Three successive clean sheets says all you need to know about Pompey’s defensive improvements.

But the Blues have only scored once in that time – Jake Jervis’ winner against Accrington a fortnight ago.

And Wes Fogden believes that the squad just have to trust in their own qualities in order for performances to improve further

“We haven’t always been able to play the way we would like,” he says in the official matchday magazine for tonight’s clash with Burton. “But the important is that everyone has worked hard to do the job they were brought in here to do.

“The league position we were in obviously meant there was also quite a bit of pressure on us all and maybe that impacted on our performances.

“But I think we just need a bit more belief in our own abilities because we’ve shown on a few occasions that we can play good football and create chances.”

You can read the full interview – where Fogden also talks about why he chose to join Pompey – in tonight’s programme.

Issue 21 is another packed edition with a double-sided pull-out poster and collectable player cards.

Also in the perfect-bound 84-page publication, Ben Chorley discusses his firsts, we take an in-depth look at Burton and there are exclusive columns from Richie Barker, Iain McInnes and Johnny Ertl.

Tonight’s matchday magazine is available to buy from programme sellers around Fratton Park and is great value at just £3.

You can also download the programme for £2.99 to read on your iPhone or iPad. Download the free Matchday Digital app from the iTunes store, find the Pompey section and follow the instructions. Click here for more information.
