Holmes Happy To Be Back

14 July 2013

Winger delighted to be playing again after a spell on the sidelines

Two sets of 45 minutes against Havant & Waterlooville and Bognor might not sound like much.

But it feels like heaven for Ricky Holmes after a couple of months spent sitting on the sidelines.

A foot injury kept the winger out of the final part of the season for Barnet last term.

But he has impressed in his brief appearances for the Blues so far, netting his first goal against Bognor at the weekend.

“Results don’t mean too much in pre-season,” explained Holmes. “But we’re a new set-up and two wins out of two is good.

“It’s nice to play a couple of 45 minutes, get a goal and not pick up any injuries.

“Before these matches I hadn’t played since February, so it’s nice to just to get over the line in one piece.

“My job is to get assists, so I’m happier with the two of those I got than the goal I scored.”

Pompey will now head off for a training camp in Colchester, which includes a match at Braintree on Tuesday night.

But Holmes is now starting to focus on what will be happening off the pitch.

He said: “Us new boys have got to do some X-Factor singing, so we’re all looking forward to that!

“They wanted me to write my song choice down, but I just said ‘acapella’ – don’t worry about any background music. Joe Devera and I have been practising by singing into a spoon!

“But, seriously, we can all have a laugh and hopefully the training camp will bring us all together for the season ahead.”
