Goal hero searching for consistency

Pompey’s home form is up there with the best sides in League Two.

A 3-0 victory over Morecambe kept up their fine Fratton record and help dilute the pain of two poor performances on the road.

But two-goal hero Jed Wallace knows that the Blues need to find consistency if they want to achieve their ambitions.

And he is already casting his mind ahead to the next match after helping to see off the Shrimps.

Wallace said: “We know what we’re capable of – especially at Fratton Park.

“There was no point moping around after a couple of bad results because we had an important game to prepare for.

“So we stayed positive and showed everyone what we’re all about against Morecambe.

“But we’re all aware that consistency is so important and we have to replicate our home form when we go to Tranmere next Saturday.

“If we can produce even 50 per cent of what we’re doing at home when we’re on a road then it could be a recipe for success.

“We put pressure on ourselves because we’ve got talented players and are always looking to win games.”

Wallace’s double saw him move into double figures for the season and he was pleased with Pompey’s overall performance.

“I set myself a target before the start of the season to get into double figures,” he said. “It’s great I’ve been able to do that so early.

“I had a swing and a miss as well, so we could have got even more, but it was still a really convincing victory.

“Ryan Taylor was tremendous for us up front, holding the ball up well to create chances and was unlucky not to score himself.

“The two debutants (Marcus Bean and Matt Fish) looked good as well, so there are a lot of positives that we can take from the performance.”
