WALLACE: I'M HUMBLED

4 May 2015

Player of the Season honoured by accolades

He has followed in the footsteps of players like Paul Walsh, David James and Glen Johnson.

And Jed Wallace is honoured to see his named engraved on The News/Sports Mail Player of the Season award.

It capped a great campaign for the 21-year-old midfielder, who netted 17 goals in 50 appearances.

Wallace is just disappointed that he was not able to help the Blues finish higher than 16th in the League Two table.

He said: “It’s been tough going at times this season and we were desperately trying to get the club out of this division.

“Everyone knows how I feel about Pompey and I gave it my all – unfortunately it just wasn’t to be.

“But on a personal note I’ve enjoyed being able to score so many goals and I’ve been happy with what I’ve achieved.

“To even be playing for Pompey is an absolute honour for me and at times I perhaps take that for granted.

“But then I come to Fratton on a matchday and see all the fans who have flocked here and I realise that it’s a massive achievement.

“So to get personal accolades and join those sort of names is amazing and I’m a little bit humbled by it.”

Humbled by today, this is a special club .. Thankyou 💙

Wallace was given a standing ovation when he was replaced by Bradley Tarbuck towards the end of Saturday’s match at York.

He said: “It was an emotional day for me and when I came off there was a lump in my throat.

“This is a magnificent football club with a lot of great characters and I’ve got an amazing rapport with the fans.

“I just want to thank everybody so much for all the support they’ve shown me – now it’s time for the club to kick on and do better next season.”
