FREEMAN HAPPY TO MAKE BLUES BOW

8 February 2016

Defender enjoyed first Fratton experience

Kieron Freeman enjoyed his Pompey debut – if not the outcome – on Saturday.

The on-loan full-back started the home defeat to Leyton Orient, having arrived from Sheffield United the previous week.

It was a welcome return to action for the 23-year-old, who had been a regular for his parent club in the first half of the season.

And the chance to play in front of packed houses at Fratton Park was one of the reasons why he headed south.

Freeman said: “It was brilliant to get the chance to play because I hadn’t had 90 minutes in more than two months.

“But I got the opportunity to go out there in front of an excellent crowd and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

“When my agent told me about the interest from this club it was something I couldn’t really turn down.

“With the support and what people are trying to achieve here, it’s something I’m happy to be a part of.”

Jobi McAnuff’s fine second half strike meant that Freeman’s Blues bow ultimately ended in disappointment.

He said: “Orient came with a game-plan and it worked for them. I think it summed the game up when we had a shot and it hit their guy who was down on the floor.

“We just have to put the match behind us and look forward because there are still 18 left to go this season.

“We’ll take stuff out of the game – that’s what you have to do if you want to improve.

“But now we have to go into next Saturday’s test against Bristol Rovers full of confidence and ready to go again.”
