Winger revels in Notts County triumph

Kyle Bennett’s Pompey career got off to the perfect start with two goals on his debut against Dagenham back in August.

But he had been starved of strikes at Fratton until a Good Friday rout of Notts County.

The winger scored either side of the interval to give the Blues a commanding lead, with Christian Burgess and Marc McNulty then wrapping up a 4-0 triumph.

And Bennett was delighted to be able to play such a pivotal role in a victory that keeps Pompey in the promotion-chasing pack.

He said: “It’s a great relief – we’d been searching for an emphatic win and it was a good performance from the lads.

“We pressed them high up the pitch and it gave us the momentum to go on and win by four goals.

“I could have had a hat-trick, but I’m just happy that the team have won and it’s the first time I’ve scored at Fratton Park since the opening day.

“That was a bit of a weight off my shoulders, although ultimately it’s all about the result and the performance.

“Enda played it down the channel for the first and I was looking for a pass in the box, but nothing was on, so I stuck it between the keeper’s legs and thankfully it went in.

“It was a great ball from Robbo to put me clean through for the second and it was just about keeping my composure before picking my spot.

“We’ll be in on Saturday to do some recovery, so then it’s about picking ourselves up and going again on Monday.”
