And they saw out the second half – surviving appeals for a penalty when the ball struck Goodall’s hand – to secure all three points.

There was still time for Pompey to score again before the interval, however, thanks to a stunning 30-yard volley from Lucy Quinn.

But the visitors did level late in the first half, with Sam Pittuck firing home from just inside the area.

Jodie Goodall then ensured the lead was maintained, clearing off the line after Kit Graham and rounded Sadie Blakely.

They broke the deadlock after just 11 minutes when Addicks keeper Megan Lynch misjudged Tiff Taylor’s cross.
