Ladies Earn Their Spurs

Quinn goal secures another Pompey win

Pompey Ladies kept up their fine winning run with a 1-0 Premier League Southern Division victory at Tottenham.

Lucy Quinn (pictured) scored the only goal of the game after nine minutes, sliding the ball home after meeting Nadine Bazan’s low cross.

They almost doubled their advantage following a mistake by the Spurs keeper, but Charley Wilson’s long-range effort crashed against the woodwork.

The visitors continued to create chances following the interval, but one goal proved enough to secure the points.

Joint Blues boss Katie Poore said: “It was a tough game, but we scored early and that settled our nerves.

“Our keeper barely touched the ball in the first half and we were in total control. Spurs were more determined after the break, but still didn’t create a lot.

“The girls were after a bit of revenge after we lost to Tottenham at Fratton Park earlier in the season.

“It’s certainly not the best we’ve played, but it was good to get the three points. We should have won more comfortably, although I’ll take 1-0 results if it means we keep winning.

Pompey: Blakely, Bazan, McMillan, Murphy, Taylor, Quinn (Frampton 70), Bloomfield, Simmonds (Russell 78), Kempson, Hillier (c), Wilson
Subs not used: Hunt, Greene
