LADIES EASE TO PLYMOUTH VICTORY

27 October 2014

Wilson, Hillier and Umotong on target

Pompey Ladies stretched their unbeaten run to nine matches with a comfortable 3-0 league victory at Plymouth.

They broke the deadlock midway through the first half when Charley Wilson converted Gemma Hillier’s low cross.

Hillier then got on the scoresheet herself just before the interval, with a neat overhead effort after Jodie Goodall had headed a corner back across goal.

The hosts looked sharper after the break and created a few opportunities to get back into the match.

But Pompey secured victory on 84 minutes when Jess Frampton pulled the ball back for Ini Umotong, who turned and slotted home.

Blues boss Perry Northeast said: “It was a good performance and it’s nice to see three different strikers hitting the target.

“We looked dangerous going forward and also kept a clean sheet, so overall it was a positive day at the office.

“Plymouth set up with 10 players behind the ball to make life difficult for us, but we stayed professional and got the job done. We stuck at the task and controlled the game.

“It keeps our unbeaten run going, but I still don’t think we’ve hit top gear this season.

“All of the players are constantly looking to improve and that can only bode well for the rest of the campaign.”

Pompey: Blakely; Taylor, Goodall, Clark, Bazan; Kempson, Sievwright (Frampton 71), Bloomfield, Quinn (Dark 66); Wilson (c), Hillier (Umotong 56)

Pompey Ladies are hosting a race night in the Victory Bar at Fratton Park on Friday, November 21. Entry is £2 for adults and free for concessions. Doors open at 7.30pm, with the first race at 7.45pm.
