LADIES PREPARE FOR BIGGEST CUP TEST

26 April 2014

Blues face Notts County on Sunday

Pompey Ladies face a tough test in the quarter-finals of the Women’s FA Cup when they host WSL leaders Notts County at Gosport’s Privett Park on Sunday.

The match kicks off at 2pm. Admission is £3 for adults and £1 for concessions.

The Blues have reached this stage of the competition for the first time in their history.

Notts County were known as Lincoln Ladies prior to the re-organisation of the Women's Super League.

They arrive on the south coast boasting several international players and will be a real test for a Pompey side effectively two leagues below them.

Joint Blues boss Perry Northeast said: “This is a massive day for our club and city. To think we are the only team left outside of the Super League is evidence of how hard everyone throughout Portsmouth Football Club has worked, especially the squad and coaching staff.

“We could not have dreamed of being third in the league and reaching the last eight teams in the FA Cup at the start of the season after losing players to the WSL.

“The girls have been working really hard, training with confidence and I know they are really up for a good old FA Cup upset.

“We will play Everton or Liverpool if we get past Notts County. We can do it with some passionate support at Privett Park – we need that support.”

Pompey are waiting on late fitness tests to forwards Charley Wilson and Lucy Quinn, but will be without injured defenders Lauren Murphy and Fi McMillan.
