TUBBS: A GREAT ACHIEVEMENT

2 May 2015

Striker delighted to top league's scoring charts

He has already been named in the PFA League Two Team of the Year.

And now Matt Tubbs can add the golden boot for the fourth tier to his list of personal achievements.

League goal number 21 arrived against York, although Brad Halliday’s late leveller ensured Pompey ended the campaign with just a point.

So Tubbs is hoping that the 2015/16 campaign will bring some rewards for the entire team.

The striker said: “I’m really honoured to have that achievement and always look to be in a position where I can score goals.

“Luckily, I had some good players around me at Wimbledon to create chances for me earlier in the season and it’s been the same again here.

“But if you score at home late on then you expect to see the game out – unfortunately that’s been the way this season’s gone.

“We need to learn from our mistakes over the summer and then look to put that right next term.

“I don’t think we should be in this division, let alone finishing in mid-table. It should be us celebrating play-offs at the minimum.

“Whoever comes in as manager needs to give this place a lift and we’ll have to wait and see who that is.”

Tubbs was full of praise for midfielder Jed Wallace, who was presented with the Player of the Season award before kick-off.

He said: “Jed’s scored 17 goals from midfield and has that spark to be able to turn games on their head.

“He’s a young lad who’s had a fantastic season and he can go as far as he wants to go in the game.”
