BLUES SUPPORT AMERICA'S CUP PORTSMOUTH EVENT

13 March 2015

Global event coming to the city

Pompey stars Paul Robinson and Josh Passley have thrown the club’s support behind the America’s Cup World Series sailing event which is coming to Portsmouth in July.

The pair took time out from preparing for Saturday’s clash with Luton to back the Golden Ticket competition, which will give any ordinary ticket holders for the event the chance to upgrade to a VIP package.

More than 50,000 have already been sold and ticket holders are being encouraged to Tweet or share on Facebook their purchases with #goldenticketACWSUK to be in with a monthly chance for special packages, including the chance to meet the competitors and get out on the water.

Blues boss Andy Awford said: “It’s fantastic a global sporting event of this size is coming to Portsmouth and as a club we are delighted to be working with the organisers to help make it a huge success.

“The players and coaching staff are all looking forward to getting down to the event in July and supporting Ben Ainslie Racing.”

The link with the Americas Cup is an important one for the club.

Pompey PR consultant Colin Farmery said: “This is a huge national and international event for the city of Portsmouth and the opportunity for two iconic sporting institutions to work together was too good to ignore for both parties.

“As a club we are looking forward to developing partnerships with The America’s Cup World Series Portsmouth event organisers as well as Ben Ainslie Racing, which will ensure a fantastic event in July, as well as raising the profile of the club to the wider world.”

Dan Wilkinson, communications manager for the event, said: “Pompey is clearly the biggest sporting brand in the Portsmouth area and we are delighted the club has come on board to work in partnership with us.

“We want as many local residents as possible to get involved in the America’s Cup World Series Portsmouth and the club, with its huge fan base, is very important to us in achieving that goal.”

The racing – which is a preliminary event ahead of the 2017 America’s Cup – takes place in the city from July 23 to July 26.
