ROBINSON: WE KEPT BELIEVING

24 February 2015

Defender's delight as Blues fight back to beat Rovers

Paul Robinson says belief is now surging through the Pompey squad.

The Blues fought back from two goals behind to claim an unlikely 3-2 victory over Tranmere at Fratton Park.

Craig Westcarr’s header and a Ryan Taylor brace saw them stretch their unbeaten run to six matches.

And Robinson was pleased with how the side kept fighting to overcome their deficit.

The skipper said: “I was telling the lads to keep going because it’s amazing how many times one goal can quickly turn into two.

“You get one and then the momentum swings – they go a little bit deeper and get nervous, while the crowd get up.

“I’m over the move for Ryan to get the two goals – he does such a lot of hard work and he got his rewards.

“It was the first time in a while where we’ve had to come from behind, so it was pleasing to see how we responded to that.

“We’ve got that run of form now which means we are believing that we can turn things around. Perhaps we didn’t have that earlier in the season.”

Westcarr arrived from the bench to score Pompey’s first, while Andy Awford also brought on Andy Barcham and Conor Chaplin to help turn the tide.

Robinson said: “The manager was very pro-active with his substitutions and that made a big difference.

“I was starting to wonder what formation we might play after going 3-2 up, but the lads stayed strong and saw the game out.

“We kept heading and kicking it out of our box to make sure we held on for the three points.”
