Please see below for four Pompey in the Community and National Citizen Service vacancies.

National Citizen Service (NCS project apprentice – apprenticeship will be in youth work)

Reporting to the NCS manager this role covers positions in the Portsmouth and Havant & Waterlooville areas. The organisational base is the Pompey Study Centre in Anson Road (PO4 8RA). Evening and weekend work will be required.

Pompey in the Community is the charitable arm of Portsmouth Football Club and has secured a contract from the Football League Trust to deliver the National Citizen Service (NCS) programme. 

NCS provides young people aged 16 and 17 from all backgrounds, and with varying abilities, with the opportunity and support to take on new challenges, learn new skills and make a difference in their local community.

Purpose
Support the successful recruitment and delivery of the NCS Programme in Portsmouth, Havant and Waterlooville.

Main roles and responsibilities
- To support the NCS team in the co-ordination, delivery and implementation of the National Citizen Service programme in the district.
- To support the aims and performance measures of the business unit and the NCS project.
- To assist with the recruitment of young people in accordance with the guidelines laid out in the NCS contract.
- To assist with the marketing of the NCS project within schools, other educational providers and youth settings and work with colleagues to ensure that the programme is promoted at every available opportunity.
- To assist in monitoring and updating NCS web pages, email and social media accounts.
- To assist with data collection and reporting processes as laid out in the NCS contract in accordance with the stated timeframes.
- To attend all residential phases of the programme and to ensure availability throughout the delivery phases.
- To attend meetings, training, and be a positive representative for Pompey in the Community and Football League Trust both internally and externally. There will be regular regional meetings in the south-west of the country.
- To work alongside the education and sports coaching team to support in all other department projects.
- To complete all coursework and assignments as required to fulfil the apprenticeship requirements and to attend all required training.

National Citizen Service Co-ordinator (maternity cover)

Reporting to the NCS manager this role – which starts in June – covers positions in the Portsmouth, Havant & Waterlooville areas. The organisational base is the Pompey Study Centre in Anson Road (PO4 8RA).

This position is initially maternity cover, with the possibility of it being extended for the duration of the delivery contract.

Salary: TBC, dependent upon qualifications and experience.

Purpose

Main roles and responsibilities
- To support the development and publicity of the NCS programme through creating flyers, social media and publicising the NCS programme within local and national media.
- To recruit participants through assemblies, open evenings and promotion stands in a variety of educational settings to promote the programme which will run in spring, summer and autumn.
- Organising sign-ups and ‘getting to know you’ activities/events for the young people.
- Work with the NCS manager to ensure the required Football League Trust NCS milestones and targets are achieved for both recruitment and attendance on the programme. 
- Support NCS manager to collect and assess information on recruitment and attendance on the programme and report back to the relevant bodies.
- To help plan, deliver and support all aspects/phases of the NCS programme that will engage the young people, taking into account the logistics that NCS presents.
- Help organise and support the residential elements of the programmes and work with the co-ordinator to ensure that all relevant paperwork, policies and procedures are in place and followed.
- Support the co-ordinator to ensure that all the relevant safeguarding, health and safety documents and policies are completed and up to date.
- To assist with the planning and organisation of the NCS graduations.
- To undertake any other duties as required by the line manager to support the NCS programme.

National Citizen Service Social Action Officer

Reporting to the NCS manager and responsible for graduates and volunteers, this role is located at the Pompey in the Community offices in Anson Road (PO4 8TB). It is a one-year fixed term contract with the salary dependent upon qualifications and experience.

We are looking for an NCS Social Action Officer to lead on all graduate activity for young people who complete the National Citizen Service (NCS) project delivered by Pompey in the Community.

The role will involve working closely with the NCS Manager and NCS Co-ordinator on the implementation and ongoing management of the NCS contract, specifically in relation to the graduation element. You will also be expected to take an active role in NCS delivery as and when required.

One of the key aspects to the role is to take responsibility for all elements of graduate activity, including overseeing graduation events and setting up and supporting NCS associations and youth boards.

This will involve providing on-going support to NCS associations and boards to ensure a lasting legacy of young people's involvement in community activities across the south-east of England.

As NCS graduates, young people are automatically offered the opportunity to be interviewed for ICS (International Citizen Service) which is a three-month international volunteering opportunity. 

Successful applicants are expected to raise funds towards their trip. Part of this role will involve supporting the young people in their fundraising, as well as raising core funds for the charity itself.

An integral part of the role will be working with the charity’s commercial and marketing manager to ensure continual submission of funding bids to support the NCS graduate programme and other opportunities.

The person
- Ideally, you will have worked with a third sector organisation or on community-based projects.
- You will have worked with public sector clients to ensure all programme delivery meets contractual requirements.
- You can demonstrate experience of having worked with sponsors, colleagues and clients alike to ensure effective delivery under a contract of service level agreement.
- In order to achieve in this role you will need to have strong negotiation skills to support liaison with sponsors and external/internal stakeholders.
- You will have the ability to lead on relationship management in order to build lasting and rewarding client relationships.

Person specification
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:
- Experience of the National Citizen Service (NCS) and knowledge of ICS.
- Experience of working with third sector organisations or community-based projects.
- Experience managing a staff team and being able to get the best out of them.
- A proven track record of managing external partners and relationships. 
- A proven ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines. 
- Examples of self-motivation and the ability to work on own initiative. 
- Excellent communication skills including written, telephone and interpersonal skills.
- Proven planning and organisation skills and excellent attention to detail. 
- Experience of creating, building and maintaining positive working relationships, particularly with youth, parents, schools and community organisations.
- The ability to travel regularly and independently throughout the region.
- Experience of working on complex contracts and ensuring delivery is met as per the agreements.
- Experience of engaging with a variety of seniority levels both internally and externally and across different organisations.
- Excellent negotiation skills.
- Good technical and ICT skills.
- Able to travel and stay residentially with the programme if required.
- Able to work flexible hours as this role will involve weekend and evening commitments.
- Experience of working with commercial partners and securing sponsorship and support for charitable activities.

Advantageous:
- First aid trained.
- Experience of writing funding applications.
- An understanding of the issues faced by young people.
- Experience of social network mechanisms.
- Practical experience of managing information operating systems including monitoring, evaluation and quality assurance frameworks.

Pompey in the Community Raise Your Game Project Lead

Reporting to the Community Cohesion Co-ordinatior and responsible for sessional coaching staff and volunteers, this position is located at the PitC offices in Anson Road (PO4 8TB). The contract is a one-year fixed term with a salary of £17,000 (37 hours per week).

Aim of the role
Raise Your Game is a new city-wide intervention using regular physical activity and education to prevent and reduce substance misuse and alcohol abuse among vulnerable young people aged 10-16 from across Portsmouth, creating safer and better futures.

As the Raise Your Game Co-ordinator, the post-holder will be responsible for general administration and co-ordination of the project, and management of the team of delivery staff.

Working closely with the project steering group, local stakeholders and a range of Pompey in the Community partners, you will promote and encourage young people to engage in the Raise Your Game programme through a variety of creative platforms as specified in the project brief.

Raise Your Game will be run in conjunction with two other city-wide projects and its vital that the project leads work together to ensure we maximise both delivery and impact. It’s likely that project staff will support the delivery of all three projects as and when required. 

Main responsibilities
- To promote the engagement of the Raise Your Game project; encouraging a range of vulnerable young people at risk of alcohol and substance misuse, among other groups, to get involved in the Raise Your Game project activities, while also supporting the project steering group who drive the project and listen to their ideas and concepts and incorporate within the programme.
- Sport and physical activity/educational workshops.
- Recruit, facilitate and direct the coaching staff including monthly meetings, training, and trips, providing a safe and friendly atmosphere.
- In conjunction with the coaches; plan, support, and facilitate the development and delivery of the weekly sessions.
- Facilitate and support the reporting process of the steering group’s ideas to the team in regards to developing the project to make it more appealing to young people.
- Support the training and development of coaches and provide new learning opportunities.
- Support the planning and delivery of annual event days promoting the project and offering high-profile activities for the whole community. 
- Plan, manage and supervise the events and partners linked to the project.
- Responsible for reaching out to local stakeholders/partners, finding ways of involving them in events/ workshops where applicable.
- General project administration.
- Deliver and manage the Raise Your Game project in partnership with Community Cohesion Co-ordinator.
- Maintain a record system to enable effective monitoring and evaluating of the project and report on the process of the project throughout the year through weekly/monthly and annual meetings with Project Board.
- Completing the online monitoring and evaluation process.
- Broker the relationship between PitC and other organisations.
- Develop partnerships to enhance the activities/programmes offered to young people.
- Manage staff throughout the project.
- Complete monthly budgets and forecasts for the project.
- Supporting the development and relationship with all key stakeholders.
- Support the development of a short film showcasing the outcomes of the project.
- Market and promote Raise Your Game through print, PitC website, social media, etc.
- Develop exit strategies for all aspects of the programme as and when appropriate.
- Support the PitC programme’s ethos of providing a safe and secure environment for young people to participate in positive activities by following the policies and procedures of PITC with regards to CRB, safeguarding and child protection awareness.
- Ensure that all young people are appropriately supervised and all staff have the appropriate qualifications. 
- To be aware of your responsibilities under Pompey in the Community health and safety policy and take all reasonable steps to ensure safety of all participants and of any other person or property affected by the activity.
