Supporter and member of staff passes away
Portsmouth Football Club were saddened to hear of the death of club stalwart Eddy Wilson on Saturday.
The 64-year-old worked at Fratton Park on match days and did the PA announcements for reserve, youth and schools matches.
But he was also a committed fan who followed Pompey all over the country and a member of the London Supporters’ Club.
When he was not cheering on the Blues, Eddy could often be found watching a non-league game – a subject he wrote about in his regular programme column.
Pompey’s former club secretary Paul Weld said: “He proved invaluable on match days over the last 30 years, during which time he also became a good friend.
“Eddy was one of the most reliable and trustworthy people you could hope to meet and dealt with his recent illness in the same way he dealt with life – with strength and resolve.”
Everyone at Portsmouth Football Club would like to send their condolences to Eddy’s sisters Barbara and Pam and all his family and friends.
